We had such a fantastic holiday weekend Ben Nevis Trip. Glorious weather, a fantastic group, great location and expertly led by local guides Rich and Monika.
Over the weekend Ben Nevis trip the group were led on three hikes, up to the local summit of Pap of Glencoe, Signal rock and the river Coe, plus the highlight of the weekend, a hike to the summit of Ben Nevis itself.
Our accomodation for the weekend was the cosy Glencoe Independent hostel in the stunning setting of Glencoe.
Its in a brilliant location with great views up the Glen and the surrounding mountains and also very handily placed for the famous Clachaig Inn. The Clachaig is the perfect place for a relaxing drink or a celebration after summiting the Ben.
Our first day hike is a chance to get the feel for hiking in Scotland and shake out the legs after the journey up on Friday. It also gives everyone a chance to check out their fitness levels, gear and get ready for the big day on the Ben on Sunday.
It also happens to be a brilliant hike, which can be done directly from the hostel. Its a great mid level summit with great views out to sea, over Loch Leven and the higher mountains.
Dinner back at the hostel was a great home cooked meal prepared by Rich and Monika and its a time to catch up, relax and discuss the big day tomorrow.
We arrange an earlyish pickup at 8:30 to take everyone up to Glen Nevis to the start of the hike. Then its off on the long hike up to the summit.
The weather is perfect and there are still some pretty big snow patches about on the route up as the group are led up by Rich and Spike.
The summit is still covered in Snow, but the sun is shining and the views are stunning.
Then its head down to the Ben Nevis inn for some quick refreshment, before the taxi pickup back to the Hostel, for yet another delicious dinner prepared by Rich & Monika.
After the previous two days strenuous hikes, its a more relaxing day today to the famous viewpoint of signal rock followed by a cooling paddle in the River Coe.
Then its back to the hostel for a quick change and transfer back to Glasgow for flights or trains home.
These were just a few of the comments and messages immediately after the trip:
“Thank you to each and everyone (especially our hosts: Monika and Rich) for the amazing time and experience”
“Thank you to all of you and a big one to Monika, Richard & Spike. I enjoyed every minute of this weekend.”
