In June 2017 our Yoga Hiking Weekend will be in the lovely village of Grasmere in the Lake District.
Yoga hiking weekend in Grasmere
Yoga Hiking Weekend Accommodation
Our base is Grasmere Independent Hostel which is located amidst the beautiful Central Fells and a short stroll from the idyllic village itself. Grasmere Independent Hostel is a truly special place at the heart of the Lake District National Park, with 4 ensuite rooms (sleeping combinations of 4,5 or 6 people). We have exclusive use of this deluxe 4 star hostel for our group, which includes our own room for yoga.
Because of its location Grasmere is perfect for our yoga hiking weekend and offers great options for both easy and challenging walks. On Saturday we are likely to explore the village and the lakeshore walks around Grasmere and Rydal Water. Sunday gives us the opportunity to visit Easedale Tarn and Helm Crag, for those that feel up to a more energetic walk.
The hostel has its own studio which we will use for the yoga classes each day. We will offer a choice of beginner, or intermediate class for each session, and you will be able to attend 3 classes during the weekend. On Saturday we begin the day with yoga classes before breakfast, then head out for our walk. When we return from our walk later in the afternoon, we enjoy tea with lots of Yen’s delicious homemade cake. After a short break we can then enjoy our second yoga session of the day.
Dinner on Saturday is a homemade dinner by Kevin and Yen, where we offer a choice of a healthy option, something more substantial, or vegetarian.
Sunday begins with more yoga and then breakfast, before we depart for our walk. When we return, we have more tea and cake, before departing.
Grasmere is many peoples favourite Lakeland village and is famous for the small church where William Wordsworth is buried. Another favourite spot is Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread shop, next door, which has been selling gingerbread since 1854.
Its also June, so the weather should be at its best for visiting this lovely corner of the Lakes.
On Saturday afer yoga and breakfast, we will head into the village, then around the lake to Loughrigg terrace which gives great views back across the lake to the village.
On Sunday we will do a steady walk where we can take in Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn, before returning to the hostel in time for departure.
These walks are moderate walks of about 7-10 miles each day. However, it is the Lake District and so there will be some steep and rocky sections and possibly wet and boggy sections. Therefore a good level of fitness is required and boots are strongly advised.
There will be a total of three classes during the weekend, more tailored to ability, so you will be asked if you would like to join the beginners or intermediate class.
We offer two yoga classes on Saturday with a walk in between through the village and around the lake. There will also be a yoga class on Sunday morning before breakfast.
Sessions will take place before breakfast and after we return from our walk. The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body and calm the mind. Yoga and hiking are a good combination, and everyone leaves feeling rejuvenated and re-energised.
A limited number of mats will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
We will offer two yoga classes for each slot (Saturday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday evening). We have found that we do have a wide range of yoga experience within our groups and therefore offering two classes means we will be able to offer a class more suited to those who are experienced (intermediate level – familiar with sun salutations and practice regularly) and a class for those who are beginners (new or returners to yoga)
Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
