Our Grasmere weekend hiking break was blessed with some of the best weather of the whole year. We basked in non-stop sunshine from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon and so were able to enjoy the stunning views at their glorious best.
As with all of our weekend breaks in the Lake District we gathered on the Friday evening to settle in to the accommodation and brief everyone on the plans for the rest of the weekend.
We also included some yoga classes in this Grasmere weekend hiking break and split into two groups for yoga classes, so we could focus on beginners and more experienced yoga practitioners. The yoga studio at Grasmere Hostel is the perfect size for a group of 10 and is a recently converted barn, with a great view. So we started the day with a more tailored and individual class for everyone.
After yoga and breakfast we all assemble at the front of the building for the start of our hike.
It is then a pleasant and easy hike along a quiet country lane into the village of Grasmere. We just take a short stop here, before heading out of the village and along the lake shore.
We hike along Loughrigg Terrace and then above Rydal Water, before taking a lunch stop on the edge of Rydal water.
Our return route brings us along the coffin trail and back into Grasmere for an ice cream or coffee stop. Then its back to the hostel for tea and cake out in the Garden, where we had Yen’s homemade brownies to enjoy.
Dinner was a rare treat in the Lake District as we were also able to enjoy this in the garden as well. But we served up in the kitchen first.
Sunday was equally glorious as we headed out of the hostel for hike on Sunday up to Easedale Tarn. Its one of our favourite walks as we first hike up beside a stream and tumbling waterfall.
Easedale Tarn is the perfect spot for a lunch break and to relax in the sunshine, take in the views and even manage a paddle.
Our return hike is an easy stroll down hill to Far Easedale and then around Helm Crag. We are back in time for more tea and Yen’s homemade cake of Lemon Drizzle this time. The perfect end to a stunning weekend.
